In 2023 Diversified Energy attained it’s 2030 goal of reducing methane intensity by 50%, seven years ahead of schedule. The presentation will share how this was accomplished and provide strategic information on effective and efficient methane emissions reduction.

With more than 35 years of knowledge in the energy industry, Mr. Espenan brings a wealth of experience to his role with Diversified as Senior Vice President of Environmental, Health, Safety and Regulatory.  Prior to Diversified, Paul has held various EHS positions at Halliburton, Burlington Resources, ConocoPhillips, and LINN Energy, also serving as a consultant.  In his role at Diversified, Paul has spearheaded emission quantification, reporting, and reduction achieving several industry firsts.  Under Paul’s leadership, Diversified has strategically reduced methane and GHG emissions intensity, achieving reductions in methane intensity of 50%, seven years ahead of corporate public commitments. Diversified earned a “Best ESG Report of the Year” from ESG Awards 2023.  Diversified has also received recognition from the United Nations Environment Program that it has achieved the Gold Standard Pathway for the second consecutive year under the OGMP 2.0 framework.  Mr. Espenan enjoys advancing emissions detection and reduction technology through field trials, improvement, and full scale implementation.


Paul, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), received a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health at Louisiana State University and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science at the University of Texas at Dallas.
